摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute glass immobilization of an excellent characteristic of an angular field of view in a normally black mode, and obtain high-grade image display, by setting the angle of torsion of a film in roughly proportional relation with the film thickness. SOLUTION: This optical compensating film is a film composed at least of a polymer liquid crystal layer obtained by executing glass immobilization of twisted nematic orientation formed by the polymer liquid crystal in the liquid crystal state, whose angle of torsion is in roughly proportional relation with the film thickness. In this case, the roughly proportional relation of the angle of torsion of the film with the film thickness means that the layer thickness has dispersion in a liquid crystal layer of a single layer composing the film, and that the angle of torsion is large on a spot having thick film thickness, and that the angle of torsion is small on a spot having thin film thickness. The range of the dispersion of the layer thickness is preferably 20% or less relative to a desired film thickness, more preferably 10% or less, furthermore preferably 5% or less.
