PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct an erroneously recognized character without entering the character at all the time for correcting the character. SOLUTION: The image of an input document 10 is inputted (S101), a character is segmented (S103), the character is recognized (S105) and the recognized result is outputted (S107). In the case of paper output, an operator instructs correction contents to a character/document which is not sufficiently recognized (S111) and an entered correction symbol is segmented (S113). According to the segmented correction symbol, word processing (S117), coupling processing (S119) or separating processing (S117) is executed. A document file is corrected corresponding to each of processing (S123) and the corrected result is outputted (S125). When the satisfactory result can not be obtained (S127), processing is further repeated back to the step S111 and when the correction is sufficiently performed, processing is finished.
