CATHETER HUB ATTACHMENT ASSEMBLY

A catheter assembly (10) is provided that has an adhesive (12) on an undersurface (14) of the hub (16) thereof, which is revealed following catheter insertion so that the catheter hub (16) can be secured to the skin (30) while maintaining universal precautions. A protective covering (20) is applied over the adhesive material (12) to preclude adhesion of the catheter hub (16) to the medical practitioner's gloves or premature adhesion to the patient's skin (30). Once the catheter (18) has been properly positioned, th e protective covering (20) is removed by gripping a pull tab (22), which projects proximally, away form the inserted catheter tip and beyond the catheter hub (16). Pulling the tab (22) everts the protective cover (20) by folding the cover (20) back over itself to gradually reveal the adhesive surface (12) to the skin. The catheter hub (16) is pressed firmly to the ski n (30) in order to create an effective adherence.
