SEGMENTED THIN FILM ADD/DROP SWITCH AND MULTIPLEXER

An optical switch and WADM uses a channel selector (10) to provide channel selection and reconfigurable operation. The channel selector (10) includes a segmented filter portion (100) and a highly reflecting mirror (110). The channel selectors (10) can be cascaded to form an N-wavelength channel WDM system. The WADM allows for the selection of a wavelength channel from a multitude of channels by moving the appropriate channel selector (10) into t he path of the light beam.
