Disclosed is a method and device for the combined estimation of channel impulse responses of a wireless telephone channel, accessed via wide-band using the code multiplex procedure. A synchronization channel is provided for the synchronization of each wireless telephone receiver. Sequences are continuously transmitted to a plurality of mobile telephone receivers via said channel. The sequences transmitted over this synchronization channel can be recognized by each of the plurality of mobile telephone receivers. The transmitted sequences have pilot symbols to facilitate recognition of the synchronization channel. The pilot symbols are transferred to a point known to the receiver within a given time frame. They are simultaneously estimated in the search and recognition procedure executed by the synchronization channel by evaluating the pilot symbols known to the wireless mobile telephone receivers. Optionally, symbols and sequences which are known to the receivers by virtue of pre-decisions, delay times and complex amplitudes or amplitudes and phases of the mobile telephone receivers pertaining to mobile telephone response channels can also be estimated simultaneously.
