The burner has gas nozzles (8) distributed around the edge of a base plate (3). A central air connection (6) passes through the base plate to an air distributor (2) projecting into a combustion chamber (1) closed by the base plate. The lowest (10) and highest areas of the air distributor have singly arranged air outlet openings (13,14) opening into the combustion chamber, while the middle area (11) is solid.
