摘要 The modified resole phenolic resin toughened by poly(alkylene oxide) comprises 2-10% of poly(alkylene oxide) with weight average molecular weight of 100,000-8,000,000, 2-15% of phenol and 2-10% of an acid catalyst and resole phenolic resin with 60-75 weight percent of solid contents and 5-10 wt. % of free aldehyde. Independent claims are also included for: (i) modified novolac phenolic resin comprising 2- 10% of poly(alkylene oxide) with molecular weight of 100,000- 8,000,000, 2-15% of phenol and novolac phenolic resin, of viscosity 200-2000 cps at 250 deg C; (ii) preparation of resole phenolic resin which involves mixing 2-10 wt. % of poly(alkylene oxide) and phenol in the weight ratio of 1.5:1-1:1 at a high temperature to form a glutinous mixture. The glutinous mixture is mixed with 2-10 wt. % of catalyst to form a viscous mixture which is less viscous than glutinous mixture. The viscous mixture is subsequently mixed with resole phenolic resin to obtain modified resole phenolic resin; (iii) preparation of modified novolac phenolic resin which involves mixing 2-10 wt. % poly(alkylene oxide) and phenol in the weight ratio of 1.5:1-1:1 at high temperature to form a glutinous mixture which is then mixed with novolac phenolic resin to obtain modified novolac phenolic resin.
