The multiple nozzle print head on an ink jet printer has a base plate (1) on which are mounted a number of pressure pulse generating elements, such as piezoelectric devices (2). The base plate is produced in a stable material, such as glass, ceramic, etc. A photolithographic process may be used to form the conductors that connect with the elements. A second plate (5) has slots that align with alternate piezoelectric elements and are part of a chamber (6) that has connections with an ink supply. A second plate (12) connects with the other elements via an intermediate plate (11). The plates are bonded together and the holes and perforations may be etched or stamped. The top plate has a full series of jet nozzles (8-3,9-3) to allow matrix printing to occur using either one or both groups to be used.
