DATA DETECTOR AND METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: A data detector and a method thereof are provided to make the phase of sampling points of input signals that are data detection points and the phase of an optimum detection point of actual playback signals adaptively coincide with each other. CONSTITUTION: In a data detector(200), an A/D(Analog-to-Digital) converter(202) converts received signals into digital data according to a sampling clock signal. A digital viterbi decoder(204) performs maximum-likelihood decoding for the digital data. A phase detecting and error voltage generating unit(206) detects phase differences between more than one sampling point of the digital data and an optimum detection point of the received signals. And the phase detecting and error voltage generating unit(206) generates a control signal to shift the phase of the sampling clock signal according to the detected phase differences.
