A nozzle head has a sealable nozzle (24) and is moved by a robot along a prescribed path over a substrate. The nozzle rim (28) has a profiled cut-out (36) facing the substrate on both leading and trailing edges which connects with the nozzle outlet (26). During nozzle movement the nozzle edge contacts the substrate. AN Independent claim is made for a process for applying a fluid or paste-like plastic bead onto a substrate in which the nozzle edges are pressed against the substrate during bead application to profile the deposited material.
