Disclosed is a method for calculating differentials between a characteristic vector and several comparative vectors. The characteristic vector and the several comparative vectors are comprised of several components. A discrimination capacity is respectively determined for the components of the characteristic vector. At least one partial differential with respect to at least one group of components of the comparative vectors is determined for each component of the characteristic vector whose discrimination capacity is below that of a given threshold. Second partial differentials with respect to components of the comparative vectors are determined for components of the characteristic vector whose discrimation capacity is above the given threshold. Differentials between the characteristic vector and several characteristic vectors are determined from the at least one partial differential and the second partial differentials.
