PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve control performance for opening and closing an electromagnetic intake/exhaust valve of an engine. SOLUTION: In an engine equipped with an electromagnetic intake/exhaust valve, when a lubricating oil temperature to is or higher than a set temperature to0 (S1, 2 to S3), normal opening/closing control is performed in which the electromagnetic intake/exhaust valve is fully opened by energizing an electromagnet to open the valve and fully closed by energizing an electromagnet to close the valve. When the lubricating oil temperature to is lower than the set temperature to0 (S1, 2 to S7), fail safe control is performed (S6 to S8) in which the intake/exhaust valve is half-opened by energizing force of a spring without energizing the electromagnet to open the valve because large friction during operation is expected. Under the fail safe control, the intake/exhaust valve is closed by energizing the electromagnet to close the valve. Thereby, opening/ closing control can be performed while saving power consumption as much as possible.
