PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the case where assembling work cannot be performed along the way in an internal combustion engine in which a timing chain is looped between a crankshaft that is axially supported by a cylinder block and a camshaft axially that is supported by a cylinder head, and further looped over engine auxiliary devices such as a lubricating oil pump and others located in a portion adjacent to the crankshaft. SOLUTION: In addition to a chain guide 18 provided outside a timing chain 12 between a crankshaft 2 and an engine auxiliary device, an internal chain guide 19 is provide inside the timing chain 12. Therefore the timing chain 12 is prevented from being caught between the crankshaft 2 and engine auxiliary device.
