The method involves determining a parameter connected to slip of at least one wheel and its variation with time, comparing the time variation with a threshold value and triggering a slip reduction procedure if the threshold is exceeded. The torque acting between the drive wheel (30,32) and a background value is determined. A slip build-up clutch moment connected to the effective torque is determined and the clutch (18) is driven to set a torque close to the slip build-up torque.
