<p>A ferroelectric liquid crystal display which is free from a tailing phenomenon by providing a proper reset period, and which has a reset period for resetting a ferroelectric liquid crystal to a dark display status prior to the start of a scanning period, and a mechanism for regulating the length of a reset period according to displayed data to thereby set a proper reset period matching displayed data. A reset period is provided for each pixel and may be provided at the same timing so as to reset all the pixels at the same time. The ferroelectric liquid crystal panel is provided with a back-light which is kept unlit during a reset period and is kept lit during periods other than the reset period. The panel has a mechanism for regulating the brightness of the back-light according to the length of the reset period.</p> |
