The invention provides a ceramic heater for uniformly heating an object such as a semiconductor wafer. A ceramic heater comprises a heater on or in the surface of a nitride ceramic substrate in the form of a disc. The heater includes a meandering element, and a spiral element or concentrically circular elements.
