摘要 <p>A method of accurately and quickly detecting and quantitating a variation or polymorphism in a number of genes contained in a number of specimens by a convenient operation to thereby examine the presence/absence of a nucleic acid having a variation or polymorphism and the ratio thereof in the genes contained in a trace amount in these specimens, which method comprises, in a homogeneous system without a need for any troublesome solid/liquid separation procedures, mixing a first nucleic acid containing the target nucleic acid with a second nucleic acid having a base sequence complementary to a specific domain in the target nucleic acid to perform competitive hybridization, and measuring the extent of the occurrence of the complementary strand substitution between these nucleic acids, thereby distinguishing the identity of the first nucleic acid from the second nucleic acid. In this method, at least two labels capable of mutually transferring energy are introduced into one or both of the first and second nucleic acids and the extent of the energy change caused by the energy transfer between the above labels in association with the complementary strand substitution as described above is measured, thereby evaluating the extent of the complementary strand substitution.</p>
