A method of controlling the release i.e. triggering, of one or more vehicle occupant protection system components during a collision, using one or several sensors and a control device which evaluates the output signals of the accident sensor or sensors according to a release algorithm for ignition of the occupant protection components. The release i.e. triggering algorithm contains a collision-type classification section (1) which evaluates the accident sensor or sensors in order to ascertain the type of accident, and the release i.e triggering algorithm, and/or the associated parameter, is adapted depending on the accident ascertainment result. |
