PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a luminescent material that can give a fullerene-dispersed film having an enhanced luminous intensity by dispersing a fullerene in a polymer having alkyl groups as side chains. SOLUTION: The main chain that forms the polymer skeleton of the polymer having alkyl groups as side chains may be a carbon chain or a carbon chain that has hetero atoms such as Si and O. A typical example is a carbon chain or a chain having Si. The alkyl groups as side chains are desirably of 1-8 carbons. Side chains other than the alkyl groups are exemplified by aromatic hydrocarbon groups, ether groups, ester groups, cyano groups, carboxy groups, and amido groups. The polymer used is exemplified by polymethyl methacrylate or poly(methylphenylsilane). The fullerene used is 60C fullerene, 70C fullerene, or an analogue thereof. Although the fullerene may be dispersed in a suitable amount, the amount of the dispersed fullerene is suitably 0.3-30 wt.% based on the polymer. The luminescent material has a shape typified by a film.
