PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the utilization of a glove compartment for either occupants on the front seat or occupants on the rear seat when the lid is opened and closed in the longitudinal or cross direction and also prevent the occurrence of restriction in a lid opening and closing mechanism to support the lid by means of the locking device of the lid. SOLUTION: In the locking device, a hook 38 pivotally mounted on a lid 6 is integrally formed with a lever, and the other hook 38 is integrally formed with an arm, and an operation arm 45 is connected to the arm through a shaft 47, and the operation arm 45 is pivotally mounted on the lid 6 integrally with a lever 44. A connection member 42 is laid between both hooks 38 and 38 to transmit the turning displacement of a hook to the other hook.
