PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrying device having a high degree of freedom in both a line length and the conveyable weight of an article and capable of high- speed conveyance. SOLUTION: An assembly cell 10b with a plurality of jigs 22 arranged in the carrying direction of the jigs 22, is of a module type provided with a carriage fork 20 and a motor 30. The carriage fork 20 supporting the figs 22 forbidding its relative movement in the carrying direction is forced to make reciprocating motion by the motor 30 along the carrying direction and between a processing position A and a waiting position B. With this, the jigs 22 are carried in succession to the prescribed position A, and the state of the relative movement between the carriage fork 20 and the jig 22 in the carrying direction forbidden is switched by a positioning device 40 to the state of the relative movement allowed.
