PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for adjusting the height of furniture or the like which is structurally simple enough to reduce its manufacturing cost and which is usable with existing furniture and the like. SOLUTION: This device comprises a cylindrical fixed element 1 vertically secured to an article of furniture or the like, and a movable element 3 fitted into the cylindrical fixed element 1 and moving vertically while reciprocating or rotating by every predetermined angle within a horizontal plane. With the movable element 3 entering deeply into the cylindrical fixed element 1, the article of furniture or the like can stop at a low position. With the movable element 3 entering shallowly into the cylinder fixed element 1, the article of furniture or the like can stop at a high position.
