Use of sulphamate derivatives as steroid sulphatase inhibitors

Novel steroid sulphatase inhibitors are disclosed as well as pharmaceutical compositions containing them. The novel steroid sulphatase inhibitors are: sulphanmate esters of formula (I), wherein each of R1 and R2 is independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or aryl group, or together represent an alkylene group optionally containing one or more hetero atoms or groups in the alkylene chain. The polycycle-group represents the residue of a polycyclic alcohol, preferably a sterol, most preferably a 3-sterol. Particularly preferred compounds are oestrone-3-sulphamate and oestrone-3 N,N-dimethyl-sulphamate.
