PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for producing an extra-low carbon thin steel sheet in which nitriding at the time of slab heating is inexpensively and easily suppressed and excellent in deep drawability. SOLUTION: At the time of subjecting an extra-low carbon steel slab contg., by weight, <=0.005% C and 0.01 to 0.1% Ti to heating and rolling to produce a thin steel sheet, the heating is executed in such a manner that, in accordance with the contents of Sn, Pb, As, Bi, Te, Se and Sb as nitriding suppressing elements, the slab heating temp. and the value of the parameter (T-1,050)×t expressed by the soaking temp. T ( deg.C) and the soaking time (t) (min) are controlled to proper ranges, and also, the average oxygen concn. in the heating atmosphere is controlled to <=10%.
