PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially producing crystalline silk fibroin having <3μm average particle diameter usable for various uses, etc., by physically grinding silk yarn. SOLUTION: This method for producing crystalline silk fibroin powder having <3μm average particle diameter comprises bringing a silk material such as cocoon and silk thread, silk yarn, raw silk, etc., into contact with an aqueous solution of an alkali at 100-150 deg.C under 1-5 atmospheric pressure, reducing the tensile strength of the silk material to <=0.02 g/d, dealkalizing and drying the obtained silk substance and then grinding the obtained dried silk substance.
