PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the production quantity, to eliminate the operational trouble such as breakout, and to prevent the deterioration of coil quality, even in the case of casting a wide and thin slab at high speed of >=3 m/min casting speed. SOLUTION: A mold having 1000-1700 mm width and 70-120 mm thickness is used, and the casting is executed at >=3 m/min casting speed and an electromagnetic brake is arranged on the mold. In the case of using G (gauss) for the applied magnetic field intensity of the electromagnetic brake and Q (t/min) for throughput, in the range of G =α(1869×Ln(Q)+1769) andα=0.6-1.4, the magnetic field intensity is changed according to the throughput. Wherein, the throughput (t/min) = the mold width (m)×the mold thickness (m)×the casting speed (m/min)×sp.gr. of molten steel (t/m3).
