<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound being a compound containing a hydronaphthalene ring structure to which a specific substituent is added, useful as an antifungal agent, an anticancer agent, etc. or their raw material. SOLUTION: This compound is shown by the formula (X and Y may form a cyclic structure or are each a hydroxyl group which may contain a lower alkyl group and a substituent or a protecting group; and R is a hydroxyl group which may contain a substituent or a protect group) such as a hydronaphthalene containing a methyl group and a hydroxyl group at the 8-position and a hydroxy-3-methyl-4,5-epoxypentyl group at the 9-position. The compound is obtained by adding m-perbenzoic acid to a solution of sclareol in dichloromethane, diluting the reaction solution with dichloromethane, successively cleaning the solution with 10% aqueous solution of sodium thiosulfate, a saturated aqueous solution of sodium hydrogencarbonate and a saturated saline solution, drying the resultant substance, purifying the substance by a silica gel column and crystallizing the objective compound from n-hexane-ethyl acetate.</p> |
