PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the subject high-purity compound in high yield without using a large quantity of an alcohol together nor using any alcohol-based alkaline solution so as to produce slight DKM which is also easily filterable off. SOLUTION: This method for producing a malonic monoalkyl ester alkali metal salt comprises selective saponification of the corresponding malonic dialkyl ester using a basic alkali metal compound comprising the following two consecutive steps: 1st step involves producing an alkali metal salt of the CH-acid of the malonic dialkyl ester from the malonic dialkyl ester and the corresponding alkali metal alcoholate, and 2nd step involves hydrolyzing by the action of water the alkali metal salt of the CH-acid of the malonic dialkyl ester thus produced.
