HUMECTANT AND BACTERIOSTATIC AGENT FOR COSMETIC

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a humectant and bacteriostatic agent that has a lower skin irritation than that of p-hydroxybenzoic ester. SOLUTION: This humectant and bacteriostatic agent for face washing or for non-face washing purposes comprises 1,2-octanediol. In a preferred embodiment, this moisture-retaining and bacteriostatic agent is used in cosmetics in an amount of about 0.01-10 wt.%. This agent can increase the humectant effect of the cosmetics and can give the cosmetics bacteriostatic effect.
