PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain anα-olefin polymerization catalyst useful for the production of an olefin polymer having high melt tension and excellent moldability by including a specific solid catalyst, an organic aluminum compound and a specific silicon compound. SOLUTION: The objective catalyst contains (A) a solid catalyst component produced by contacting (i) a solid component for polymerization containing titanium, magnesium and a halogen as essential components with (ii) a silicon compound of formula I [the group of formula II ((x) is an integer of >=5; R1x and R2x are each a substituent containing at least one kind of element selected from C, H, O, etc.), and the group of formula III ((y) is an integer of >=5; R3y and R4y are each a substituent containing at least one kind of element selected from C, H, O, etc.), are each an alicyclic hydrocarbon group containing substituent or the like; R5 is a 1-6C chain hydrocarbon group], (B) an organic aluminum compound component and (C) a silicon compound component of formula IV [R11 is a hydrocarbon group which may contain hetero-atoms; R12 is a hydrocarbon group same as or different from R11, R13 is a hydrocarbon group; 2<=m<=3].
