PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an organic mica which has excellent dispersibility in organic solvents and can simply give organic clays, by introducing a quaternary ammonium ion into spaces between the layers of a swelling mica obtained by heating a mixture of talc with sodium silicofluoride or lithium silicofluoride. SOLUTION: This organic mica is obtained by introducing a quaternary ammonium ion expressed by the formula (R1 to R4 are each benzyl group, a 1 to 30C alkyl or a 1 to 3C hydroxyalkyl group) into spaces between the layers of a swelling mica. The swelling mica is preferably a mica obtained by a dry synthetic method, especially preferably a mica which is obtained by treating a fine powder mixture of talc with sodium silicofluoride and/or lithium silicofluoride at a temperature of about 600 to 1, 200 deg.C and has a cation exchange amount of about 85 to 100 milliequivalent. The quaternary ammonium ion is preferably trioctyl.methyl.ammonium ion, di-coconut- alkyl.dimethyl.ammonium ion or the like. The organic mica can be used as a dispersant having excellent dispersibility and useful for organic solvents.
