PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject polymer having a changed higher-order structure of a polymer, exhibiting a low band-gap value and highly useful as an optically and electronically functional material by introducing a functional group to a side chain of a polymer containing silicon in the main chain structure. SOLUTION: This silicon polymer has a functional group with a repeating unit of formula I (R1 is an alkyl or an aryl; R2 is H, an alkyl, an aryl or the like; R3 is an alkyl, an aryl or the like; x and y are each a composition ratio of the repeating unit, and satisfy the formulas 1>=y>0.01 and x+y=1). The polymer can be obtained by reacting a silicon polymer having a repeating unit of formula II with a diazo compound of formula III in the presence of a rhodium catalyst or a rhodium metal salt. For example, a polymethylsilyne-methylsilylene) is reacted with t-butyl diazoacetate in the presence of rhodium acetate to provide a poly[methylsilyne-methyl(t-butoxycarbonylmethyl)silylene] as a yellow solid.
