PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently obtaining a polyether having a high degree of polymerization by easily polymerizing a substituted epoxide except propylene oxide and epihalohydrin. SOLUTION: This method for producing a polyether is to conduct ring-opening polymerization of a substituted epoxide (except propylene oxide and an epihalohydrin) in the presence of (a) a metal complex containing both at least one kind selected from rare earth metals and its ligand and (b) an organometallic compound capable of reducing the rare earth metals.
