PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zirconium compound film-coated tool and manufacturing method thereof significantly improved in durabilities such as wear resistance and impact resistance during cutting. SOLUTION: This zirconium compound film-coated tool is constituted by coating the surface of a base material with a zirconium compound film composed of a single-layered film or a multilayer film of one kind of carbide, nitride, carbonitride, carboxide, nitroxide or carbonitroxide, composed of one kind or two or more kinds of metals of groups IVa, Va and VIa of theperiodic table, each always including zirconium on the surface of a base, and at least one layer of aluminum oxide film. The outermost layer of a cutting edge portion 3 consists of the aluminum oxide film, while the outer most layer 5 of a portion other than the cutting edge portion 3 consists of the zirconium compound film.
