PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel rack which is greatly reduced in cost by simplifying the structures of columns and rack panels, which enables the rack panels to be firmly mounted in certain height positions, and which is excellent in appearance. SOLUTION: The cross-sectional shape of a column 1 is such that end faces plates 6, 6 located at both ends have their respective outer edges joined together by a side face plate 7 formed by curving or bending and have engaging plates 8, 8 bent inwards and formed at their respective inner edges. A rack panel 2 is such that the corners 10 of an upper face plate which is polygonal on plan view are cut away; reinforcing plates 11 are formed by bending at right angles to other side edges; and both reinforcing plates at the corners of the rack panel are joined with both engaging plates of the column. With the reinforcing plates 11 and the engaging plates 8 both sandwiched between a fixing member 3 placed within the column and a retaining member 4 placed within the rack panel, the fixing member and the retaining member are fastened together by a fastening member 5 threadably engaged therein from within the rack panel, to hold the rack panel at a certain height position of the column.
