PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coloring agent to be added to a molded thermoplastic resin article to develop a color in the form of a pattern by forming a spherical or elliptical organic particle free from coloring treatment or colored with a dye or an organic and/or inorganic pigments. SOLUTION: The objective coloring agent for developing a pattern on a molded thermoplastic resin article is composed of at least one kind of particle group, preferably 2-4 kinds of the particle groups, consisting of a porous or hollow organic particle composed of a spherical or elliptical regenerated cellulose (or its composite material) free from coloring treatment or colored with a dye or an organic and/or inorganic pigment and having an average particle diameter of 50-5,000μm, preferably 100-1,000μm. The ratio of the particles having particle diameter falling in the range of the average particle diameter±5% is >=75% of the total particles.
