摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a low density and high strength heat-insulating material by using a slurry which consists of alumina-silica based ceramic fiber containing added zirconia, an inorganic binder and an organic binder, for a production process of the heat-insulating material. SOLUTION: This production process comprises: preparing a slurry consisting of alumina-silica based ceramic fiber containing added zirconia, preferably a 3-10 wt.% (based on the weight of the ceramic fiber) of colloidal silica or colloidal alumina used as inorganic binder, and preferably a 1.7-3.3 wt.% (based on the weight of the ceramic fiber) of methylcellulose and/or a polyacrylamide-based copolymer emulsion used as an organic binder, subjecting the slurry to vacuum forming into a formed body, drying the formed body; and subjecting the dried body to heat treatment to produce the objective heat-insulating material, wherein, preferably, the ceramic fiber consists of 35-47% silica, 30-50% alumina and 15-23% zirconia and has a 100-900μm average fiber length. Also, in the production process, the particle size of the colloidal silica is adjusted by the polyacrylamide copolymer emulsion and the viscosity of the slurry is adjusted by a methylcellulose-based thickener, to enable concentration of the inorganic and organic binders at contact points of filaments of the ceramic fiber with each other.
