The projectile (108) is fired by a flexible or movable part of a firing mat (106) to which an electrical current is supplied. An electromagnetic device (101) for firing a projectile comprises an electrically conducting firing mat connected to an electric current source (105). The mat is secured to the device via at least two fastener regions, in between which is a movable or flexible part of the mat surrounding part of the projectile or a firing body (104) around the projectile. Supplying an electric current to the mat causes this movable or flexible part to shoot the projectile.
