PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silica phosphate tin-based glass having increased mechanical strength and improved weather resistance by making the glass include SnO, SiO2 and P2O5 as main components and compounding SiO with SiO2 and P2O5 at a specific ratio. SOLUTION: This silica phosphate tin-based glass comprising SnO, SiO2 and P2O5 as main components in the ratio of 30-80 mol%, preferably 40-60 mol% of SnO, 5.5-20 mol%, preferably 5.5-10 mol% of SiO2 and 10-50 mol%, preferably 24.1-40 mol% of P2O5 is prepared. The glass may contain other components. The content of SnO, SiO2 and P2O5 is preferably >=60 wt.%. For example, ZnO, B2O3, Al2O5, WO3, MoO, etc., can be compounded as other addition components. This strong sealing material can be constituted of 50 vol% of the silica phosphate tin-based glass and 0-50 vol.% refractory filler powder. Cordierite, zircon, etc., can be used as the refractory filler powder.
