PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing gypsum fibers, which is suitable for producing in an industrial scale the gypsum fibers which are useful as a material for reinforcing rubbers, plastics, coatings, and so on, a paper material, and an heat-insulating material. SOLUTION: This method for producing gypsum fibers comprises reacting a calcium salt with a salt having a sulfate radical in an aqueous solution. Therein, the reaction system is maintained at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature of >=80 deg.C. The calcium salt is reacted with the salt having the sulfate radical in the reaction system containing a compound which generates the ions of one or more kinds of elements selected from copper, magnesium, iron, ammonia, nickel and manganese.
