The invention relates to a method for determining a location value (M) indicating the position of a rail vehicle on a route. According to said method, reference points which are located along the route and which have known respective positions are detected by the rail vehicle. Reference point signals (Sreset) are generated and the location value is produced on the basis of the respective last reference point signal (Sreset) and a route value (S) indicating the length of the route completed by the rail vehicle from the respective last detected reference point. Said route value (S) is added to a predetermined position value (ML) indicating the position of said last reference point. In order to implement said method in a simple and cost effective manner, stops are used as the reference points of the rail vehicle so that the location value (M) can be determined. At said stops, at least one door of the rail vehicle is opened. The reference point signals (Sreset) are generated on the basis of the door sensor signals (Sdoor) produced by at least one door sensor (15) that is mounted on the rail vehicle. |
