<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically select a compression system depending on a capacity of a mounted memory by selectively setting a fixed length compression mode or a variable length compression mode where data are compressed by a fixed length compression means and a variable length compression means in response to the capacity of the image data memory. SOLUTION: The control of selecting a compression system depending on the capacity of a mounted memory starts its processing at application of power and data input processing, a compression mode setting processing and output processing or the like are repetitively executed. In the compression mode setting processing, the fixed length compression mode or the variable length compression mode is selected depending on the presence of an extended memory (an optional extended memory). That is, in the case that no optional extension memory is extended in the memory section, since it is required to conduct fixed length compression and variable length compression, the variable length compression mode is selected. On the other hand, in the case that the optional extension memory is extended in the memory section, since the fixed length compression is enough, the fixed length compression mode is selected.</p> |
