PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably form a high quality image using a comparatively inexpensive and simple and by controlling a developing device, which depending on four parameters, that is, the surface roughness of a developing roller, blade pressure, toner particles and toner electrified amount and correlating of the parameters. SOLUTION: This developing device is provided with a developing roller 20, having a surface ten-point average roughness Rz (μm) and a blade 30 abutting on the roller 20 with blade linear pressure Pb (gf/cm) and forming a layer of nonmagnetic single-component type developer T having volume average particles size D (μm) and average specific charge q/m (μC/g) on the roller 20 with layer pressure dt (μm). Relations 4<=D<=12, 5<=q/m<=30, 1<=Rz<=12, 20<=Pb<=80, dt=1.8×q/m×Rz/(Pb-1)}1/2×D±0.25D and 1.5D<=dt<=3.5D holds for D, q/m, Rz, Pb and dt. Thus, a developer layer of uniform layer pressure is stably formed.
