PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to easily recognize contents of audio data at special reproduction. SOLUTION: An MPEG multiplexer/demultiplexer circuit 7 adopting this audio special reproduction method demultiplexes digital data read from an optical disk 1 into audio data and video data. A voice recognition text conversion circuit 13 converts the audio data decoded by an MPEG audio decoder 8 into text data through voice recognition. An on-screen character processing unit 14 generates a video signal in a way that characters represented by the text data are displayed overlappingly on a reproduced video image. In the case of special reproduction such as double speed reproduction, the character represented by the text data are displayed overlappingly on a special reproduction video image.
