摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with high reliability while maintaining uniformity of display by forming a columnar space holding member in the gap between a liquid crystal cell and a pair of optical devices. SOLUTION: Upper and lower substrates 1, 2 are adhered by polymerization with a sealing agent 6 composed of an epoxy adhesive or the like with a gap holding member 5 interposed, into which a nematic liquid crystal 7 is supplied and sealed with a sealing material to constitute a liquid crystal cell 8. As for the gap holding member 5, any granular material consisting of an inorganic compound, organic compound or a mixture of these can be used, and especially, a material having an adhesive layer which can be fixed on the liquid crystal cell or the optical device is preferable. The granules having 1 μm to 1 mm particle diameter can be used, and especially, a material which can maintain 1 to 10 μm gap is preferable. Even when factors of the external environment (temperature, humidity or the like) are changed, the distortion stress generated by the strucrural parts is not transferred to the liquid crystal cell so that the liquid crystal device does not deform but can be maintain high picture quality, high quality and high durability.
