摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device in which an image with higher definition can be displayed in an easily visible state with a limited number of pixels. SOLUTION: The display device is equipped with an LCD having a plurality of pixels which are two-dimensionally arranged, a digital image processing circuit 7a which controls the LCD through each pixel to display the image based on the video signal, a wobbling optical element, a masking circuit 7b, and a control signal generating circuit. The wobbling optical element consists of a liquid crystal cell and a birefringent plate, and the element sequentially refracts the optical path of rays emitted from LCD to shift pixels. The masking circuit 7b masks the lateral ends of the image and displays a black color in this region where the apparent pixel density decreases because the pixels are shifted more than the pitch of the pixels when the pixels are shifted by the wobbling optical element. The control signal generating circuit is housed in the masking circuit and judges the pixels to be masked on the basis of a start signal, vertical synchronizing signal, a horizontal synchronizing signal, a clock or the like.
