PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clarify a cause on the occurrence of malfunction, to avoid a circuit change by means of an antenna, to clarify the optimum use environment, to connect plural reader/writers to one host device and to recognize an abnormal non-contact communication medium. SOLUTION: In the testing method, a host device 3 becomes non-contact as a test mode when a test switch 19 is depressed. The control circuit 11 of a reader/writer 1 continuously transmits a prescribed command to a tag 2. When a response is normally returned from the tag 2, a system is judged to be normal and the light emitting diode(LED) of a display part 10 is lighted. When the test mode is terminated, the test mode is decided to be terminated.
