PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase acceleration performance and attain smooth shifting-up by driving a motor by means of a control means and assisting engine power based on an assist amount predetermined at a second assist amount determining means when the acceleration intention of a driver using an acceleration intention discriminating means is higher than a prescribed level. SOLUTION: This controller determines whether a rotational speed NE is lower than a scramble assist operation lower limit value #NSCASTL (S301), sets a prescribed value #TMSCRHLD on a timer #SCRHLD at the time of lower rotational speed, that is, when the rotational speed is lower than the lower limit (S305), determines whether or not the rotational speed is lower than the scramble assist operation value #NSCASTH (8302), whether or not a control vehicle speed VP is lower than a scramble assist operation upper limit speed #VSCRAST (S303), whether or not it is kept from the previous cycle (S303) when the throttle full-open flag is 1 (S304), whether or not this cycle is generated by acceleration request when the throttle is fully opened in this cycle, and whether or not a variation DTHEM in throttle opening is larger than a threshold #DTHSCAST (S309).
