PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically detect a ruler and a blackboard as parts from an entire photograph and to extract them by detecting a regard part satisfying a stored prescribed image pattern condition and extracting an area including the regard part. SOLUTION: A regard part designation section 21 designates the regard part of a main image and a display section 52 receives position information of an area including the designated regard part from a processing section 20 and displays the information. A detection section detects the regard part, satisfying processing image pattern received from a pattern condition storage section, from the main image. The pattern condition storage section stores a condition deciding the feature of the image pattern of a ruler and a blackboard as the image pattern condition. A generating section extracts an area including the regard part and a print section 50 prints out the position information together with the main image. Thus, a browsing person of a printed matter can confirm which part of the main image a subsidiary image extracts.
