PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily recognize whether a transmitted or received image is the black and white one or the color one by providing a communication history storage means for storing communication history information for a portion of prescribed communication times and a communication history printing means for printing the communication history information which is stored in the communication history storage means or the like. SOLUTION: A CPU 101 and a ROM 102 detect whether opposite equipment has a color receiving function or not in preceding procedure of image transmission. A RAM 103 stores communication history information including the information which indicates whether the image is transmitted by black and white or color for the portion of prescribed communication times. Then picture data received with a communication line 119 and a communication part 116 are temporarily stored in a picture memory 104, decoded by using a compression/ extension processing part 108, converted into a printer command format by a recording control processing part 107 and transferred to a printer 115 with a printer interface 114. Then the received image is recorded.
